Google Image Search can be used in several ways.

1. If you want to know if a person is a man or a woman and the name does not help, do a search for the image with the name.

2. If you don’t understand the meaning of a word, the pics may help you.

3. A better search for Flicker would be Google search which uses information from other sites that link to Flicker photos, so you may find Google search better.

4. Find what’s interesting about a site, by looking at the pictures included. For example: wired.com

5. Find new wallpaper for your desktop by restricting your search to large images where you can automate this using an application in Google search.

6. You can find random personal pics by using standard file names from digital cameras.

7. When you type the name of a painter and you can take an art class with out much ado.

8. By installing a Grease monkey script you can view the original version of the image directly by clicking on the thumbnail options.

9. Find the color of a word through Word Color, which is a windows program that uses Google Image Search to determine the color of a word or string of words. Word Color, retrieves the top 9 images and loops through all pixels, calculating the average hue, which is later converted to a color.

10. If you also want to grab search results, GoogleGrab is a tool that downloads images from Google Image Search which even supports batch search.

Wallpaper Search

1. Firstly, go to Google Image Search and click on Advanced Image Search.

2. Enter your related query in the first input box, for example: flower.

3. Select Photo Content from the list of content types that are made available.

4. Click on Use my desktop size to find images that are appropriate for your desktop.

5. Perform the search.

6. If you have a favorite color, click on All colors and pick any one of the 12 options according to your preferences.

Find Images with a Specific Size

Google Image Search has an undocumented parameter that lets you specify the exact dimension of the results that could be useful if you need to find wallpapers for your computer, logos and illustrations for a school project or any other images that have standard sizes.

So friends, now that all of you might start updating and exercising your online options. Some of you might suceed but most of you failed in exercising options mostly because of two options:-

1. Eamcet servers are taking too long to respond (or)
2. The internet cafe you are accessing from are not enough fast to have your options locked.

I personally tested the counselling pages and the allocated seats etc, and got few tips to share with you folks,
so dont forget to share with your friends too.

Tips:

• Solution to avoid the eamcet server problem is by accessing your options at night after 9:30 or 10.
• Dont forget to save options after selecting every course and college. Failure in this may cause your session get expired and you may fail in logging back.
• To view your previous options click on the “LAST SAVED OPTIONS” option available on the menu bar.
• To select branches from other districts, select the “last saved options” again instead of logging out and logging in back.
• you can also input an option in between, by selecting the “IN BETWEEN SELECTIONS” option.

Tips and Tricks for the New Google Reader

The social net working site of Google has come out with new additional features in the Google Reader. Here are few tips and tricks. The improvements in the Google Reader include giving you more control on the information you want to share and accessing the information easily that others want to publicly share from with in the Google Reader.

• One way is to publicly declare your shared items and hope that others will read it and come to you. Another way is to use the “new people search feature” which is powered by “Google Profiles”. From with in the Google Reader you can browse for publicly declared articles of your choice by people and can also browse by name, topic and location and once you find what you are looking for you can follow them.

• Privacy is provided to you in what items you want to share and with whom. Items can now be share with “Specific Group” or “Multiple Groups”. Only the people that are added to your sharing Group will have the access to your comments on the shared items. The composition of the group could be the same as your Gmail contacts if it is used. Any changes you make in the Google Reader will be made to your Gmail as well.

• If you wish that any one who visits you in your “Google profile” have access to what you are interested in, a link can be added to your shared items on the Google Reader to your Google Profile. By checking the box “Add a link to my Google profile” you will make it possible for others on the Google Reader who search for shared items to find your shared items and follow them. To make it more convenient the “Reader Shared Items Page” can be given a custom URL. This facility has to be enabled on your Google Profile under “Profile URL”.

• Any thing you have read and liked can be declared so by clicking “like” and all such “likes” are made public and others coming across the same item become aware that you are a “fan”. This way you will come across and discover people with similar interests and can “share your items” with similar minded people.

• Although your shared items are public only people you have added to the shared group can see or add comments. This can be enabled by the check box.

Navigating through the File Open or Save Dialog box with just the keyboard is relatively easy by typing simple keystrokes into a

Navigate into next Directory

When any File Open or Save dialog box is opened, just type  (period period) and hit the Enter key and you’ll notice you are suddenly in the next directory up.

Navigate by Relative Path

You can type .. in the File Open Dialog box to navigate to the directory above the current one and then start typing the name of a folder or file name and also you could use two or any number of levels to continue to traverse up the directory tree.

Navigate with Shell Folders

There are a list of shell folder shortcut names (desktop to go to the desktop folder) included in Windows Vista (or XP) that will let you navigate in the File Open Dialog box with shell folders.

Navigate with Environment Variables

The built-in environment variables allow you to quickly navigate to a Program Files folder folder. For instance,  you could type:

%programfiles%

or %appdata%, which takes you to the C:Users<username>AppDataRoaming folder

When you open a command prompt and type set in the File Open dialog box you can see a full list of these variables.

Note: surround the variable name with percentage signs as shown above.

Navigate with UNC Paths

You can still open and save directly from a shared folder, despite not having a drive letter mapped to another computer. You must type in the UNC path to the server the syntax:

ServernameSharename

Navigate with FTP server

You can even connect to an FTP server to open a file by using the following syntax:

ftp://user@servername/path/

On entering the  FTP password you can browse the FTP site like a local folder. However, this method is relatively slow in comparison to similar paths.

Navigate with Full Paths

You can just start typing the full path to a file in the File Open Dialog box which might take longer than some of the other options.

Navigate with Copy and Paste

You can navigate with a new option called Copy as Path in Windows Vista, if you hold down the shift key while right-clicking on a file or folder, which will copy the full path of the folder to the clipboard.

The changes that appear in your new Mozilla Firefox 3.5 are obvious. There is something extra that some may want and sometimes some thing different. This can be achieved by tweaking the Firefox 3.5. Here are some trips and tricks for operating your tabs.

1. In Firefox 3.5 tabs can be dragged out of the current window into their own. If you do not want this facility or want to undo it or want to drag the tab to the desk top to create short cuts then you can install the extension bug489729(Disable detach and tear off tab) . When you access the options of this through the Add-ons manager and click “Disable detach Tab”. You can also restore the ability to drag tabs to the desk top to create short cuts by selecting the other option. Short cut icons can still be created by dragging the web pages favicon to the desk top or book marks by dragging to the book marks menu or tool bar.

2. Hide the new tab button in the tab bar

While most users (specially new ones) will appreciate the new tab button added to the tab bar, some may find it useless. You can make your Firefox look cleaner by removing it. Add the line below to your userChrome.css file (*):

.tabs-newtab-button {display: none;}

3. Hide the tab bar when there’s only one tab open

To restore Firefox 3.0′s default behavior of hiding the tab bar when there’s only one tab, in Options/Tab, uncheck Always show the tab bar.

4. Switch to new tabs opened from links

When you open a link in a new tab, you may want to switch to it immediately to cut some procrastination. To set this behavior, in the Options window, open the Tabs page and check When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately.

5. Keep the window open when you close the last tab

In Firefox 3.5, when you close the last tab, it also closes the window. While I can’t remember when was the last time I had only one tab open, there may be people annoyed by this. For those types, set browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to false via about:config to keep Firefox open in those cases, just like in Firefox 3.

6. Show the close button in the last tab

By default, when you only have one tab left it doesn’t have a close button, because if you close it it would close the whole window which may be unexpected. You can still close it pressing Ctrl + W, or selecting Close Tab in the File menu. But if you just have to have your button, add the following code to userChrome.css (*).

7. Change the number of recoverable windows (and tabs)

In Firefox 3.5 you can recover your recently closed windows through the History menu. By default you can only recover the last three tabs, but you can change it to a value that better suits your needs.

Access the advanced preferences entering about:config in the location bar and search for preference browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo and set it to the number of windows you want to be able to restore.

You can do the same for the number of recoverable tabs from the default 6 to the desired value modifying browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo.

* The userChrome.css file is located in the chrome folder in your profile folder. If you can’t find the file, but there’s a userChrome-example.css, just copy or rename it and make the change in it.

Now you can easily hide angelic secrets with Steganos LockNote which will  encrypt your information by using a password that you supply. You can start the application when you double click the LockNote exe file to run it. You can also drop the text documents on Steganos LockNote to turn them into encrypted self-opening documents as well and clear the text field to clear the existing password.

The Menu Toolbar & Right Click Menu

The menu bar consists of the File Menu, the Edit Menu and the Help Menu. However, LockNote prevents the editing of Font size or type in the Edit Menu.

The Right Click Menu in Steganos LockNote is a Unicode Control Character  that can be inserted into your encrypted document.

Saving Encrypted Document File

When you go to save your document you will be prompted for a password in the following window. The file name is mandatory as in any similar document saving encryption process until you close the window.

When you double click the original file it will open the same beginning window that is ready to be turned into a whole new encrypted document (unless you saved the file under the original name). The time to save and encrypt the doc in LockNote is minimal. When you double click on the newly saved document it will immediately bring up the prompt window for the password you chose. The default doc opened very quickly and is ready to edit or use. You can also notice that the new file name is displaying at the top of the window now that it has been reopened.

Changing the Password

You need go to the “File Menu” and select “Change Password” to change your password where you will be asked for your current password to begin the process. Once you have entered and confirmed your new password, your password will be altered accordingly.

Lately, my PC was slow and kept freezing on me. I’ve been noticing a Lag in my computer when starting up and it takes sometime to get full speed, then thereafter everything works normal speed. I want to explain in a simple way on how to increase ‘Windows Speed’ through ‘Hard Drive Optimization.’ Now my PC works smooth and fast as never before and saves me a lot of time and money.

A Hard Drive is the biggest built-in information storage system on your PC or Lap Top. This mechanical drive gets flooded completely to its limits thereby slowing down your computer speed. This kind of jam reduces several functions including, copying and moving of files; log in time, pauses while working and playing videos and games.

The solution is to periodically run a defragmentation utility that takes a couple of hours to run, depending on the size of your hard drive and severity of fragmentation. To understand how this might be done, let’s take a look at how data is moved to and from a disk. The input and out put subsystem accepts a stream of requests to read or write data to and from a disk which it holds in a queue. In order to help speed things up on the hard drive, it usually merges read or write requests together if they are close to each other in the queue and if they involve the same area of the disk.

The read requests on the hard drive are generally given higher priority than write requests because a given process will have to wait for the read data it has requested before it can continue, while it won’t have to wait for the result of a write. The subsystem will also usually detect the input and output data when it is being read sequentially from the disk and use a technique called “read-ahead” to read and cache the disk block following the one it has been asked to read.

There is one problem when the cache is switched on when it is likely that a crash (blue screen) or power failure may cause severe file system corruption, causing data loss. I advice that you should only use this on systems where you can easily restore a backup of the information should this situation occur. However, with the cache switched on the hard drive runs faster thereby increasing data speed considerably.

Many a time when you are surfing the web you do not want your details to be revealed. Fire Fox 3.5 does have a provision for this in its privacy policy that asks your permission for providing your IP address, nearest wire less access point and your geographical location such as latitude and longitude. But if you are still using the older Fire Fox versions there is a way of securing your privacy and not reveal your private information. This way you will also be able to access sites that have blocked you permission or these sites may have been blocked by your own ISP or net work admin. The browser has to be configured to let you surf proxy.
To begin with you need the proxy server’s IP. This you can obtain by using google if you do not know.
In the “Tools” go to “options”. Now click on the icon of “Advanced”. And select “network”). In the window that appears go to “configure how fire fox connects to the internet” and click on “settings”

In the window of “connection Settings” that appears click on “manual proxy configuration” button to begin the procedure

In the “HTTP Proxy field” enter the field and its “port” number.
Click on “ok” and restart your fire fox.
This will enable you to surf proxy. When you want to revert to the original server’s IP address and when you come to the window of “connection settings”, click on the button “No Proxy” and then click “OK”.

Many a time there may be applications that you are working upon which request for details about your location. This is over and above the details of your browsing history. The choice is left to you whether you want to share your location details with others. Your browsers also need your location details to search for appropriate information that may be location specific when you query. Similarly information of your location is required for navigational purposes too.

But Fire Fox 3.5 does not use or share this information with out the user’s consent. “Google Location Services” is used as default for calculating your position. But even this service exchanges latitude and longitude that is encrypted before exchange. Details of your browsing history are at no time exchanged.

If you have given permission to give details of your location to a site, you can also cancel it by visiting that site and clicking on the Tools option and select “Page Info”. Then select the “Permission Tab” and make necessary changes to “Share Location”.

Then go to the Tools menu again and click on the “Details” arrow. Select the “Cookies” option and then you should click on “Clear Now”.

By this process Google that otherwise shares your IP address, nearest wireless connection point and a random number that it allocates to you, will disable the passage of this information if requested.

One question comes to our mind what about the mobile phones we use? Do they also pass on this information?

Adobe’s Photoshop express the online version of Photoshop software can be accessed live very soon. It is a completely free online photo editor from adobe. It is much better than the current version of Photoshop which can be viewed from the screenshots. Now, every individual can directly edit images.

It is unlikely that Photoshop Express will be a replacement for the Photoshop CS3 upgrade, but a web based set of functionality built upon some of Photoshop’s core would be interesting for some folks.
