| BSNL offers free insurance coverage for its subscribers in case of :
Accidental Death

Permanent Total Disability means:
4Loss of sight of both eyes.
4Physical separation of or loss of ability to use both hands or both feet.
4Physical separation of or loss of ability to use one hand and one foot.
4Loss of sight of one eye and physical separation of or loss or ability to use either one hand or one foot.

The insurance coverage scheme will be applicable for the subscribers of landline including WLL, Land line PCO operators & postpaid Cellular services. This scheme will not be applicable for subscribers under Government, PSU, Corporate customers, NGOs etc. Only distinctively identifiable individuals shall be benefited.
Capital sum insured per connection is Rs.50000. If a customer has four connections i.e. two landlines, one WLL & one postpaid mobile or vice versa, then total insurance coverage of that customer will be Rs.2.00 lakhs instead of Rs.50000/-.
The period of insurance will be for one year from 14th January, 2009 (starting from midnight of 13th January, 2009).
All claims will be settled centrally directly by M/s Cholamandalam MS General Insurance company Ltd.

Note :
The time limit fixed for submission of claims by BSNL customers shall be 60 days from the date of occurrence of accident.
The insurance Co. will settle the claim within 14 working days from the date receipt of the complete document relating to claim.
Insurance claims for incident occurred upto 13.01.2009 (to be submitted within 60 days from the incident) is to be submitted to M/s. Bajaj Allianz in their prescribed form.

In its pursuit of growth BSNL is putting into place the national Internet Backbone. The National Internet Backbone of BSNL consists of 432 Point of Presence( POP) that gives it the capability of transporting IP traffic from every nook and corner of the country. This network provides internet services to more than 1 million dial-up customers including about 3.5 lakh customers on CLI basis.
2nd in the line of IP network, BSNL commissioned a state-of-the-art Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) NETWORK TAKING India into the next stage of the IP evolution. This network has 10 physical nodes with all district headquarters designated as virtual nodes. This network has opened up a new market segment of secure and reliable Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for Corporate customers.
The latest endeavor of BSNL is a world-class multi-gigabit multi-protocol, convergent IP infrastructure which will provide voice, data and video services through the same backbone. In terms of infrastructure for broadband services, this would put India at par with more advanced nations. Designated as NIB-II this will be implemented in the form of four projects.
- Project 1 involves building up of MPLS backbone
- Project 2.1 is for narrow band access
- Project 2.2 is for broadband access
- Project 3 is to put systems and processes in place to integrate network built in The other projects and provide services like messaging, billing etc.
All the above projects in form of NIB-II are at different stages of implementation and as per schedule .They will be operational in the third quarter of this year.
The services that will be available to customers when NIB-II is in place:
- Narrowband and broadband Internet access.
- Virtual Private Network.
- Managed OPE
- Value Added Services like encryption, firewall and NAT
- Messaging: Plain Vanilla and feature rich
- Data Center Services: web hosting and web-collocation.
- Content based Services: e.g. video multicast, video on demand, interactive gaming

BSNL offers Data services on CDMA 2000 1X technology. A customer can avail these services by using BSNL NIC (Network Interface Card) with internet surfing speed upto 144 kbps or by using EVDO Cards with surfing speed upto 2.4 Mbps.
Now, BSNL is also offering roaming facility on these cards. The charges of unlimited internet usage through these NIC and EVDO Cards are as under :

2. The above tariff will be effective from 1 st July, 2009 for all new customers. For existing customers who have already taken the cards and are presently getting unlimited service @Rs.250 for NIC and Rs.550 for EVDO card, they have to migrate to higher plan after completion of 6 months period and due intimation has to be given to them as per TRAI directions on the subject.
3. All other terms and conditions will remain the same.
- Promotional Offer – BSNL has reduced the sale price of PCMCIA type of NIC and EVDO cards to Rs. 1680/- and Rs 2100/- respectively. Offer valid till stock lasts or upto 30-9-09 whichever is earlier.

BSNL also offers unlimited Internet access and downloading facility on CDMA 2000 1X technology by using FWT/IFWT/HHT with internet surfing speed up to 144 kbps @ Rs. 250/- per month wherein a customer can avail the facility of Local/STD/ISD calls at normal telephone call charges.
