Beware of Codec Packs!!

Codec Packs users have experienced software conflicts from them and their problems have been resolved when it has been removed. It is better to debug them immediately.

cpCodec Packs: An Overview

Codec Packs contain several filters, codecs, splitters and who knows what else that all gets installed in your system. They are downloads that promise to give you the ability to play any videos that you might encounter. They also change the settings on your system as they come without decoder tools when they are installed to make Codec Pack the default tool.

Many well-known Codec Packs are listed below:

  • K-Lite Mega Codec Pack
  • K-lite Codec Pack
  • Vista Codec Pack
  • XP Codec Pack
  • Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP)

Codec Packs Problems

Theoretically,  Codec Packs would give you all of the decoders that you need to play videos but practically they create software problems.

All Tools in One Pack: The tools in the Codec Pack are similar and therefore, it cannot differentiate what software you have or what settings are right for your system.

Scattered Parts (Tools): The Codec Pack comes with 10, 20, 30 or more parts of which some might conflict with software you already have. Also, they might conflict with something you get later leading you to blame the new software instead of the Codec Pack installed months ago.

Pirated Software: Codec Packs include pirated software that is license-free which increases your risk of conflicts and crashes, due to bugs which may be fixed in newer versions since the  codec makers are trying to jam a bunch of unrelated tools together.

Atrocious Setting Changes: Codec Packs use ridiculously high merit numbers that are invalid in order to become the default pack.

Codec Removal: Codec Pack removal is the common agenda of all website users. You can use Add or Remove programs in Windows XP to uninstall them immediately.

Conclusion

The people who put the Codec Packs together don’t make the tools, they just put them together in a pack. There is no guarntee that what is good for other systems will work for your system. The only alternative to Codec Packs is to install only the filters and codecs that you need one at a time always. However, the evils of Codec Packs are  comprehensive and it is better you do not install them at all.
